Brief biography
Dr. Muhabat Adeola Raji is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Alfaisal University. She is a Clinical Microbiologist and holds a M.Sc. degree in Medical Microbiology and also MBBS, FMCPath, and B.Sc. degrees.
Her research thrust is on multidrug resistant hospital pathogens, particularly, bacteria agents. She had some of her training, on molecular characterization of bacteria with emphasis on Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), in Lausanne, Switzerland. The training experience, based on the use of the highly discriminating technique of Double Locus Sequence Typing (DLST) and SCCmec characterization of MRSA, was facilitated by a World Bank assisted STEP-B funding grant awarded to her. She was the Head of Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Nigeria, and she also coordinated the Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology of the Lagos State University, College of Medicine. While she was the Head, Dr. Raji was actively involved in the setting up of the Microbiology laboratory attached to the new laboratory complex in the hospital and she also served as the Chairman, Hospital Infection Committee, and assisted in the investigation of MRSA outbreak in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She is a member of the Governing Council of Fountain University (an Islamic-faith based, private University) in Nigeria. She is also a member of the Infection Control Africa Network, American Society for Microbiology and the Nigeria Medical Association. Dr. Raji has given both oral and poster presentations at International Conferences and has publications in peer-reviewed journals.
