I am an assistant professor in the English department at Alfaisal University. My research focuses on the social and cultural aspects of language. I am interested how language is used to create social worlds. My past research includes extensive ethnographic fieldwork in the Jazan mountain region of Saudi Arabia. I have written about language and identity, language ideologies, dialect formation and place-making in the Jazan region. I earned a B.A. in cultural anthropology from the University of Washington, a M.Ed. in adult education from Seattle University and a Ph.D. in sociolinguistics from the University of Essex.
