Dr. Hatouf Sukkarieh, Assistant Professor in Pharmacology

Dr. Sukkarieh joined Alfaisal University’s College of Medicine as Assistant Professor of Pharmacology in 2018. She obtained her PhD in Pharmacology and Physiology from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA, in 2013. During her doctoral training, she gained extensive experience in voltage-gated calcium channels, focusing on site-directed channel mutations and studying currents passing through those channels using the single and whole-cell patch clamping technique. These research activities play a crucial role in the process of new drug development.

 

Prior to joining Alfaisal University, Dr. Sukkarieh held the position of Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at King Saud Bin Abdul-Aziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) in Riyadh, KSA, from 2015 to 2017. She has a wealth of experience in teaching various topics in Biomedical Sciences, including Pharmacology and Physiology. Dr. Sukkarieh is a senior tutor in problem-based learning (PBL) and team-based learning (TBL) sessions in several blocks, such as Foundation, Musculoskeletal, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular, Hematology, Gastrointestinal, Respiratory, and Urology.

 

Dr. Sukkarieh has served as a principal investigator or co-investigator on multiple research projects, covering areas such as pharmacogenomics, diabetic nephropathy, and the role of vitamin D. Her research interests have also expanded to include the field of pharmacogenomics. Dr. Sukkarieh has presented her work at a variety of national and international conferences and scientific meetings and published numerous articles in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.

 

Throughout her career, Dr. Sukkarieh has been actively involved in administrative and scientific tasks. She is certified as an external reviewer in accordance with the standards set by the National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA). Dr. Sukkarieh recently completed an extensive online leadership training program at Harvard University, further enhancing her skills and knowledge in the field of leadership. She is also involved in training students in research methodologies and proposal writing as she is the course director for Research Methodology which is delivered to graduate students.

Dr. Sukkarieh currently serves as the chair of the Proposal Review Committee at the College of Medicine. She served as a quality officer and committee member of Quality Assurance and Accreditation (QAAA). Furthermore, she has contributed to committees on student mentorship, faculty recruitment, and faculty development, demonstrating her commitment to academic excellence and professional growth.
