Professor Khaled Manae AlKattan is the Dean of College of Medicine at Alfaisal University and a Consultant and Head of Thoracic Surgery at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center. He aims to achieve continuous progress for the University. He envisions a higher ranking, a more student-centred approach and conducting more research programs for the University.
His vision resulted in signing a 3 year contract for a separate building for the College of Medicine which will have a curriculum based, user-friendly design. He also oversees the process that students go through to successfully reach residency programs, Ph.Ds etc. He feels extremely proud of his allegiance to the University and College of Medicine in particular.
Dr. Khaled Al Kattan possess a vast academic background. He graduated with an MBBS degree from King Saud University in 1984, attained his F.R.C.S (part 1 & 2) from Edinburgh (1987-88). He has completed several professional trainings and has obtained extensive experience in Thoracic surgery over the course of his academic career from 1989-2000 at the King Saud University. He received several scholarships and awards, the recent highlight being the Lifetime Achievement award (2014) by the Saudi Thoracic Society.
With his exceptional knowledge, he has provided invaluable contribution to academic books (Education in Anatomical Sciences and ESTS Textbook of Thoracic Surgery). He also has 100+ published papers on multiple subjects under his name as well as participation in major research projects in the last 7 years.
Dr. Al Kattan is a renowned lecturer who has been invited for his commendable lectures both nationally and internationally in the last 20 years. He has attended various conferences, workshops, symposiums during the span of his career. He also has extensive experience in administration services (1996-2010).
Dr. Al Kattan is the founder and board member of various societies including Saudi Thoracic Society, Medical Education Society, Alzheimer’s Saudi Charity etc. He is an honorary member of over 35 medical clubs and societies. He likes to indulge in squash and horse riding for sport and takes avid interest in stamp collection.
