Dr. Tarek Mokhtar is an Associate AIA, Arch-Roboticist, Architect/Design Thinking Expert, Inventor and Assistant Professor of Architectural Engineering in the College of Engineering at Alfaisal University. On April 2022, Dr. Mokhtar has been appointed as the Director of Alfaisal's Accelerator and Design Thinking Incubator, the Office of Research and Innovation, RO, Alfaisal University.
He is the founder and director of the intelligent Design and Art (iDNA) Research Lab at the CoE of Alfaisal University (http://tarekmokhtar.wixsite.com/idna-rg). He is a member of the Institute for Intelligent Materials, Systems and Environments (iMSE), Cornell University, USA, and an Executive Editor at the Journal of Architectural Engineering Technology (JAET).
Dr. Tarek Mokhtar has twenty one years of teaching experience in KSA (DAU and AU), USA (Clemson U), and Egypt (Ain Shams U). He teaches courses in digital design, architectural design, computation in architecture, interactive architectural systems, digital fabrication, theory of architecture, and construction drawings. Mokhtar earned an interdisciplinary PhD in Planning, Design and the Built Environment [PDBE] from Clemson University, USA, specialized in Architectural Materials + Systems on research stream 7.0: Intelligent Environments – "Architectural Robotics". He had also earned MS and BS in Architectural Engineering from the College of Engineering at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt.
Dr. Tarek Mokhtar's research explores embedding robotics and information technologies in the built environment. His research involves designing, prototyping and evaluating intelligent and interactive systems focusing on: Human-Robotic Interaction, Human-Centered Design, and the Socio-Cultural and Psychological factors affecting human-machine and -space interactions, at all scales of the built environment.
Research Interests: Non-Humanoid Social Environments, Cyber Physical Systems, Intelligent Environments (Architectural Robotics), Internet of Things, Human-Centered Design, Evidence-Based Design, Human-Space Interaction; Quasi-Experimentation and Usability Evaluations; Digital Design and Fabrication; Aesthetics; Computation; and Cybernetics.
