Abstract |
Contemporary studies argue that the manufacturing industry has greatly benefitted from lean practices by eliminating waste in production lines. It has also benefitted by better using the output achieved from its resources. It is argued that manufacturing organizations in developing economies, such as South America, need to identify and reap the benefits from key success factors such as performance management, human capital management, and organizational targets that assist firms in adopting lean practices. Such practices help organizations streamline processes to better fulfill their business needs and direct funds towards capitalizing on their core functions without wasting resources. It has been found that there is, on average, higher use of lean practices in developed economies than in developing economies such as South America (Bloom et al. 2012). This could be explained by the fact that lean practices are more common in sustainable economies in developed countries. An opportunity exists for developing economies to create the infrastructure and deploy the necessary resources to effectively implement lean practices. |
