Dr. Rakan J Alanazi is a clinical pharmacist scientist, Head of Pharmacy Education Unit at Alfaisal University and Chairman of the Therapeutic committee at MOAF charity in Riyadh. He completed his Doctor of Pharmacy, Pharm.D from Ohio Northern University in USA in 2018. Followed by a Master of Clinical Pharmacy from the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Purdue University College of Pharmacy in USA in 2020. During his career, Dr. Rakan worked as a teaching assistant and research assistant at Purdue University and developed an interest in research and teaching. Dr. Rakan worked as Clinical Pharmacology intern at Vetex in Boston, which is a biotechnology-based company with research focused on developing molecules for rare diseases. He worked on several projects and research with regards to pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles and various modeling and simulation tools. Dr. Rakan interests are in understanding pathophysiological and pharmacological factors influencing variability in response to cardiovascular and cancer drugs and its contribution to arrhythmias during heart failure. My goal at Alfaisal University College of Pharmacy faculty and graduate students is to enhance scientific exchange and shared expertise across these two different disciplines with the aim to increase student understanding of the clinical pharmacist role and help prepare the next wave of clinical pharmacist scientists. This can include skills such as clinical trial design, population PK/PD modeling and simulation studies, innovative approaches for a special population, pharmacogenetics, and personalized medicine, etc.
